With the rapid development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), big data has become a pivotal scientific research frontier, playing an active role across multiple disciplines. Its impact on urban planning and urban studies has been particularly pronounced. In the fall semester of 2016, I launched the graduate-level course "Big Data and Urban Planning" at Tsinghua University, which integrates theoretical frameworks with practical urban planning applications.
This course serves as a textbook for urban and rural planning and related disciplines in higher education institutions, suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students. It also provides valuable references for professionals such as planners, urban researchers, and technical experts in related fields.
